Beating the Odds to Improve Student SuccessAbout 2.2 million students will enroll as full-time freshmen this fall. What are the odds for their success? Less than 60 percent of full-time freshman at four-year schools will earn a degree within six years. The results are even worse for low-income and minority students. At community colleges, less than 30 percent will earn a degree within three years. A new report, Beating the Odds: What It Means and Why It's Important, from HCM Strategists and supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, profiles a diverse group of more than postsecondary institutions and their efforts to help more students, particularly those who are traditionally underrepresented, successfully earn a degree.
