In 2001, Michael Manganiello, Founding Partner of HCM Strategists, connected more than 100 unlikely allies—including scientific societies, universities, patient advocates, and others—to encourage federal support for stem cell research.
The Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR) significantly raised the profile of this issue through public awareness efforts and work with state and federal policy makers. Legislation to fund stem cell research passed the House and the Senate by large margins in 2006 and again in 2007.
Years later, CAMR is still the nation’s leading bipartisan pro-cures coalition. More than 100 million Americans are coping with cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, Parkinson’s, spinal cord injuries, heart disease, and other debilitating diseases and disorders. CAMR provides a national, collective voice on Capitol Hill and in the media for those who believe that medical and scientific research, including embryonic stem cell research, hold the key to providing American families with hope for the future.
